Inaugural Event Held in Ohio

September 7th, Waltham, MA, 2017; This past weekend saw the inaugural GPS Super Cup take place in Canton, Ohio with 30 GPS and Affiliate club teams participate. GPS MA, GPS NH, GPS ME, GPS NJ, GPS RI, GPS Nasa, GPS Florida West, GPS Puerto Rico, GPS Lexington, Rochester FC, Discoveries SC, SVA, WV Fury and FC Missouri were all present at the outstanding facilities at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The competition ran across three days at the U12-U14 age groups and is the first of two annual competitions designed to see GPS teams compete against each other as well as invited elite local opposition.  The second event at the U15-U19 age groups will be held in February in Orlando, FL.

“This weekend’s GPS Super Cup was a great experience for all our teams,” said GPS National Premier Director Andy Prosser. “The opportunity to see GPS teams from all over the country face off in an excellent playing environment created a super atmosphere on the field and sidelines and a great demonstration of the growth of the club over the past few years,” said Prosser.

In the Boys section GPS Canada (06), GPS Puerto Rico (05) and GPS Mass (04) were crowned winners.  In the girls section, Cleveland Internationals lifted two titles (06 and 04) with Cleveland Soccer Academy winning the 05 Division.

The event also provided an opportunity for players to be evaluated for the GPS National Team Program.  Set up in 2015, GPS National teams are formed to compete at the highest levels of soccer both domestically and Internationally.  This past year saw GPS compete in the Foyle Cup (Northern Ireland), Super Cup (Northern Ireland), Dana Cup (Denmark) and Surf Cup (California).  2018 squad selections will be made during the GPS National Team Camp to be held in South Carolina in early 2018.

“As a GPS National team coach, the Super Cup allowed me to see a number of players across the club in a competitive situation,” said GPS Director of Coaching Peter Bradley. “There was an enormous amount of quality present and was great to see the GPS style of play implemented across the board,” added Bradley.
